Describing Past Event
This is to study how to retell our experience in the past. Sometimes, in some occasions we need to tell someone about something that happened to us in the past. In retelling past activity, we use Simple Past Tense and Present Perfect tense.
For example:
I went to Bedugul Botanical Garden on my last vacation.
Marie and John have finally tied the knot. They got married in last October.
My son is a nice boy When he went to Surabaya for a vacation, his uncle took him to a toy shop. He asked my son whether he wanted to buy some toys. He answered that he just wanted to look around and did not want anything. Later, he said that he did not want to bother his uncle
Last night, I helped a friend of mine answering the phone in the front office. When I picked up a phone from a customer, suddenly, our boss and some staff came out and asked us why the internet turned off. We said we did not know why After that, our boss checked the internet plug and found out that it was unfastened. What fun was, I accidentally hang up the phone because of that. Luckily, there was no complaint
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION
A: Hi, how are you?
B: I'm good, how about you?
A: I'm good too. Hey, by the way, I've been looking for you for this whole week, where have you been?
B: I went to Bandung to visit my grandfather. He was in hospital. My uncle called my father last week, and he said that we had to come back to Bandung because he thought that his condition was bad.
A: How bad?
B: He was unconscious and his doctor said that we had to prepare for the worst
A: And what did you feel about that?
B: I was shocked of course, because my grandfather has been sort of my inspiration. He gave me much advice when I was a little boy
A: And how is he now?
B: Still in hospital, I came home because I have some work to do.
A: When will you come back to Bandung?
B: Perhaps tonight, I have done my work
A: Ok, I hope that your grandfather will get well soon
B: Thanks
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION:
A: Have you ever been abroad?
B: Yes, I have
A: Where did you go?
B: Last year I went to The United States to take a short course of photography
A: Wow, wasn't it too far for a short course?
B: I don't think so because I gained much knowledge, not only in photography, but also in much more like social and culture.
A: Where did you find the information about that course?
B: I went to my old campus and I found it on the notice board.
A: Was it hard to apply for visa to US?
B: Well, it was quite easy. I have an uncle there to be my sponsor.
A: Two years ago I applied for visa to US, but it was only because I didn't use my family name, they said that they couldn't see any relation between me and my family there. It was hard, and I regretted it so much. It was only because of a name
B: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Rumor said that if you have been rejected once, it will be harder for you to apply next time. You will be in the black list
A: Yeah, I know that too, but I hope it's just a rumor.
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION
