Simple Present Tense With TO BE
As we know that TO BE in the simple present AM, IS, and ARE are paired with Subject Pronoun and or Noun as follow
I am
You are
We are
He is
She is
They are
It is
Melia is
Anton is
We can make three types of sentence by using simple present tense with to be
1. The predicate is noun
2. The predicate is adjective
3. The predicate is adverb (place orang location)
The first type is the one whose part of the predicate is noun
I am a student
You are a Carpenter
We are farmers
He is an architect
She is a nurse
They are painters
It is a rabbit
Dewi 's a teacher
Anton is an electrician
Dewi and Anton are employees
If we make the above sentences negative, they will be read as follow :
I am not a student
You are not a carpenter
We are not farmers
He is not an architect
She is not a nurse
They are not painters
It is not a rabbit
Dewi is not a teacher
Anton is not an electrician
Dewi and Anton are not employees
If we want to change, the above sentences into Interrogative sentences, we have to put the TO BE first.
Are you a carpenter?
Are we farmers?
Is he an architect?
Is she a nurse?
Are they painters?
is it a rabbit?
Is Dewi a teacher?
Is Anton an electrician?
Are Dewi and Anton employees?
The second type is the one whose part of the predicate is adjective :
I am happy
You are arrogant
We are friendly
He is smart
The third type ts the one whose part of the predicate is Adverb of Place or Location :
I am at Ngurah Rai Airport
You are at the library
We are at school
He is in the garden
She is in the kitchen
They are at the cinema
It is in the cage
Dewi is in her hotel room
Anton is in the lobby
Dewi and Anton are at the hotel
If we want to change the above sentences into Negative Sentences, we have to NOT before adverb of place or location :
I am not at Ngurah Rai Airport
You are not in the library
We are not at school
He is not in the garden
She is not in the kitchen
They are not at the cinema
It is not in the cage
Dewi is not in her hotel room
Anton is not in the lobby
Dewi and Anton are not at the hotel
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION
A: Where is your father NOW?
B: He is at home. Where is your father?
A: He is at the library. Is your mother at the post office?
B: She is not at the post office. She is in the park.
A: How about your brother? Where is he now?
B: He is at the cinema. He is there with his girl friend.
A: And where is your sister?
B: She is at the library. Where is your brother?
A: He is at the harbor
B: Where is your sister?
A: She is at the office.
