This is to learn how to express prices. The situation can vary. It can take place in a supermarket, a shop, a market, a restaurant, or a hotel.
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION
Understanding price expression can be useful for those who work in trading, as cashiers, and sales staff; and also for those who want to go abroad.
Some expressions of prices:
- What is the price of this refrigerator?
- How much is that shirt?
- How much does it cost?
- Can you tell me the price of this tape recorder?
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION:
A: I like these trousers. How much are they?
B: Rp.250.000,- (two hundred and fifty thousand rupiahs).
A: I'll take them. What about this t-shirt? What is the price?
B: It's Rp.75.000,- (seventy five thousand rupiahs).
A: Ok. I'll take it. Those sunglasses, how much are they?
B: They are Rp.400.000,- (four hundred thousand rupiahs).
A: Are they original?
B: Yes, they are.
A: I think I'll take them. How much do I owe you?
B: Wait a minute, please. Trousers, t-shirt, and sunglasses....Rp.725.000,- (seven hundred and twenty five thousand rupiahs).
A: Fine. Where is the cashier?
B: The cashier is near the front gate. Thank you very much, Sir. Do come again!
A: You're welcome. I'll come back soon.
B: Enjoy your day, Sir.
SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION:
A: Can I see the electric fan over there?
B: This one, Sir? It's a good electric fan. It consumes less electricity.
A: How much is it?
B: It's Rp.200.000,- (two hundred thousand rupiahs).
A: Give me discount, please!
B: How many units will you buy?
A: Only one. Is there any discount for one?
B: I give you 10% discount.
A: So what is the price after discount?
B: That will be Rp.180.000,- (one hundred and eighty thousand rupiahs)
A. All right, I'll take it.
B: Anything else, Sir?
A: No, I think that's all. Where must I pay?
